When Hashes Change

Passwords will only be hashed using the SHA-512 method for more secure password storage when you change your password or perform a factory reset. If you upgrade the firmware without changing your password, the existing password hash will remain unchanged for compatibility reasons.

Downgrading Considerations

If you change your password after upgrading (thereby switching to SHA-512) and then downgrade to an older firmware version, the WebUI will prompt you to re-enter your current password so it will be re-hashed using the previous format, retaining backward compatibility. Only downgrades done through the Web UI re-hash step are currently supported.
