so, I kinda did this with chatgpt 5.2/5.4 pro (not codex) back in december - may

the basic idea is that it polls only your APs, and aggregates all the info so you have minimal network traffic

the last stuff we started working on was push notifications but that isn't complete (and, i'll probably rip it back out, its the wrong place to do it anyways, see github.com/yellowman/sysmon for that)

just put it up on an nginx or whatever to do ssl on top of the Go app listening in the background. point it at postgresql. have a blast.

the app is kinda too big to easily manipulate with an LLM without targeting and knowing what's going on at this point. maybe fable 5 or 5.6 Sol or kimi k3 or something will be better at figuring it out now. i haven't messed with it for the summer but I will make some improvements and stick them up on the github.

actually that's all i'm gonna show since i don't want to give you my radio counts, subscriber names, etc. oh and robert please don't sue me for naming it waveControl with the swishes. maybe i should call it something else.

it allows you to see devices, and sort by quality and see all kinds of stats. like a tarana deployment, it only needs to talk to your APs. unlike a tarana deployment it doesn't try to become your business partner or drain your bank account. but if you did choose that, you can look at github.com/yellowman/telemetryd which replaces the gnmic/grpc nightmare.

and whatever. it's not perfect. it did slopify a bit during "development". it needs some work. but it does allow you to sort by signal, do batch upgrades, and with some tightening it could probably be super duper. maybe not. it's written in Go and should work on Linux or Windows or whatever. Go for it.

LLMs are not great at developing applications like this today. but they're not terrible either. i'm terrible at it so that's why i did this instead. it has a bunch of cool features like maps and different information panes and it gives you several ways to see what is going on with your airMAX M,AC/LTU/airFiber/Wave gear. it talks to everything through http/https and uses the internal data meant for the Stations list for most of its functionality. find issues by signal level, find issues by modulation rate, backup configs, batch upgrade firmware, give your wife a backrub, whatever.

I tried to teach the LLMs how to script upgrades remotely, and you'll find markdown files in the repo that detail some of this from the LLM's amalgamation, plus example json dumps for old GPT to figure out what to do next.

The main issue is due to the SSH client library used by airControl2 not supporting more recent SSH algorithms. Luckily it is possible to work around this using a fork of the library, although it does require some fiddling:

Download the JSch fork https://github.com/mwiede/jsch

Compile the source with Java, any version >= 8.

Build the library, either using the JDK jar command or alternatives. I used the fastjar package, included in many Linux distributions.

Stop airControl2.

Find the existing library (in the lib folder, under /opt/Ubiquiti/AirControl2 for the Linux default installation path) and rename, e.g. to jsch.jar.org

Copy the replacement jsch.jar to this location.

As the new library also deprecates the insecure SSH algorithms they have to be explicitly enabled if you wish airControl2 to connect to airMAX radios still running older firmware. Add the following to the airControl2Server.vmoptions file, or include in the invocation within the init.d or systemd script if not using the install4j startup:

-Djsch.kex=diffie-hellman-group14-sha256,diffie-hellman-group14-sha1,diffie-hellman-group1-sha1

-Djsch.server_host_key=rsa-sha2-256,ssh-rsa

-Djsch.cipher=aes128-ctr,aes256-ctr,aes128-cbc,aes256-cbc

(The jsch.cipher entry is only required for pre-M XS2 and XS5 devices)

Start airControl2.

The second issue is the automatic lockout if too many SSH attempts are made, introduced in v8.7.18. airControl2 makes multiple SSH connections to gather data during adoption, and attempts to use DSA public key authentication, which being deprecated fails falling back to username/password, so can trigger a lockout which results in airControl reporting Response from XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (XX.XX.XX.XX) timed out or Failed to provision pre-5.5 device XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (XX.XX.XX.XX). Unless Ubiquiti relax the lockout trigger in subsequent firmware it is just a case of waiting and trying again until adoption succeeds, ideally the public key authentication algorithm in airControl2 would be changed to from DSA to RSA so those attempts then succeed but this isn't going to happen.

I can't seem to get rid of the Inactive Users error in CRM therefore I'm not getting user data usage. This is driving me nuts, I've deleted and started from scratch and still can't get it to work properly. I'm paying for this service so it's very frustrating. It won't allow me to change user location which is the problem I think. Any suggestions?

On the network connected Wave Pro, I connected via the app in hopes of making that device the AP. But it fails each time.

Both are in PTP mode, uisp is the SSID, but I did not assign a Key believing it would assign a key automatically, so its all 0000.0000.

This typically not given me challenges.

The bridge works, but I would like to update the firmware since it is ancient. It's v 5.3.3.

The AirOs does not give me the option of a 'check for new firmware', rather just a manually updating, which means I would have to download the 'update file' first....... yadda yadda.

Now because the current firmware is so old........ what's the best way on updating? I don't want to create a problem simply by jumping to the latest available firmware. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Another question, I can not access the AirOs behind the router. Only if I plug the cable coming from the bridge directly into the laptop and disable my firewall etc. Which settings would I have to change in my firewall and maybe on the router to be able to connect to the bridge?

But I lost a very important tool. In my UISP I only adopt ACCESS POINTS, I do not adopt stations.

My stations are named after their PPPOE login, so I can easily keep track.

Before this new UISP I could search APs with the Station names.

For example, I would search for:

joao.silva

And UISP would show me: T5_5 (access point).

And with that I would easily find any access points that were not working properly.

Now that way of searching is not working anymore, I can search for the AP directly but not with the station names.

This was a very important tool to easily find and solve issues.

Is this a malfunction of my application, an option in the system or was the tool removed in this version of UISP?

Hope someone on here can help me with UISP data usage. I've been running AirControl 2 for years. It's a great application for monitoring the 750 AirMax radios I have deployed. My setup is probably not quite like everyone else's and data usage is a big issue for me. I have around 300 sites where these UBNTs are residing. I have my master AP and then a few clients on each location. Each locations internet access is cellular modem, which are not on unlimited data plans, hence the concern over data usage. All the modems are on a private APN so they all terminate into my network where I have been hosting AC2 forever, as in it used to be AC1. Over the years I've tested out UNMS with no luck as it would just destroy my data usage. With the new UISP app I figured I'd give it a shot. Got it installed and running a few days go on a separate server but next to my AC2 server. For testing I took 2 modems and powered them up on my desk and took 2 UBNT NanoBeam M5s (not AC models) and put a basic AP configuration on them. So each UBNT is connected to it's own modem. I then had 1 of the NBs join my AC2 instance and the other join my UISP instance. There is nothing else on the modems as I wanted a 100% apples to apples comparison on data usage. My UISP settings for the NB are set to 1 hour checks-ins and the 120sec max ping times. My AC2 is setup for 5 minute check ins as it is for all the other devices. I've let this run for 48 hours and I'm getting very consistent hour by hour data usage on my modems. The AC2 setup is running around 65k/hour or 1.5m/day and the UISP setup is running 800k/hour or 19.2m/day. This would be a lot of data over the course of the month. I'm not seeing any other settings I can adjust to reduce the data usage on UISP. I know at some point I'm going to have to switch from AC2 but at this rate Ubiquiti hasn't made anything that compares to AC2 in terms of ease use, management of settings, and most of all the data these newer apps use for monitoring. Anyone out there got any ides?

Site 2 (SLAVE) has a third party POE Injector powering a Unifi Flex 4-Port Switch. The Flex powers the SLAVE NanoStation 5AC loco. Site 2 then distributes Wifi via a TP-LINK Wifi 7 Mesh System.

Site 1 and Site 2 are approximately 150 feet apart. Nano Stations are about 15 feet high. These are in a VERY dense neighborhood in Los Angeles (neighbor homes on either side of the house are ~10 feet apart).

The link has been stable for a few weeks. But recently, the link randomly drops. I've been looking at the channels, and good 5 ghz channels then turn green (more noise) randomly throughout the day. Probably a byproduct of the dense housing. The annoying part is that the Flex Switch then drops off the network and has to be readopted (thankfully this is automatic). But it still causes a 30s to 60s outage every time the link goes down, which is frustrating.

I moved to a DFS channel (blue, lower-noise) in the hopes that this stabilizes the link. But I've read this isn't recommended.

A few questions:

1. Any tuning suggestions? I'll post screenshots in comments.
2. Any self-healing options? Like, automatic channel optimization?
3. Is the nanostation the right option here for a very short-distance link?

Im about to install the 3d pole antenna at a distance of 9+km (antenna C) and i cannot decide how to make the seutp so i need suggestions. right now there is Edgerouter Infinity giving internet to Tower A and tower B with WaveLR antennas that is working well untill now and at heavy rains reaching -70db, I can sat that at Wave the Backup 5GHz are just useless.

I am thinking of putting Wave Pro antenna to connect Antenna B and antenna C to provide it internet, and if the re is a drop at Wave LR or Wave Pro the internet will go via Tower A to Tower C and also to Tower B via it if the Wave LR Drops. About Wave MLO is a no go unfortunately because of Goverments restrictions.

Right now there Tower B has connected the antennas with Layer 2 Switch, so i beleive i would need OSPF for that, as i have never done ospf i dont have any knwledge for that. i also need to have Layer3 for both antennas? will ER12 good option or that?

I was thinking a Wave AP and 2 Wave Picos are the right choice for this?

Will that give me 1Gb duplex throughput?

As far as UniFi is concerned will these links behave like Ethernet cables? I.e., carry one untaggged tagged vlans?

The leads on it are green and white...but it doesnt have a polarity right? So long as one leg goes into one terminal and the other goes into the other terminal of the NTC...its cool right?
