I have a site running a UDM Pro SE with a new Unifi talk implementation. I'm using 2x unlocked G3 Touch Pro phones. I have one Ubiquiti line and one from a 3rd party SIP that is the main focus.

Versioning:

UDM Pro: 5.1.33

Network: 10.6.106

Talk: 5.3.2

G3 Touch Pro phones: 3.27.2

I've configured a Smart Attendant with a basic setup for business hours and off business hours using the 3rd party SIP line. The Ubiquiti supplied line is used as a secondary line on both of the phones and is not used with the Smart Attendant.

After a certain amount of system inactivity (that exact amount I haven't figured out) I'm no longer able to make inbound calls to the system. The calls don't ring or get picked up, I simply get a long pause during dialing and eventually "call failed" or "user busy". I can work around this issue by making an outbound call from one of the G3 phones, then the system will take inbound calls again and call flows work until whatever length of inactivity it takes to seemingly go dormant.

When this issue occurs, I don't see the inbound call showing up in the call log in Talk. This applies to both the Ubiquiti line and the 3rd party SIP line.

Has anyone ran into something like this before? Is there a keep alive option I need to set somewhere in Talk?

I appreciate any help you folks may offer. I've spent a few days on this and I'm not sure where to look anymore.

How to Start a Business in Dubai with Low Capital

Dubai has built a reputation as one of the world's most business-friendly cities, and you don't need millions in the bank to get started here. With the right structure, a lean budget, and a clear plan, it's entirely possible to launch a company on a modest budget while still tapping into Dubai's tax advantages, global connectivity, and growing consumer market. If you've been searching for guidance on How to Start a Business in Dubai, this guide breaks down the practical, low-capital route step by step.

Why Dubai Is Still Attractive for Budget-Conscious Entrepreneurs

Despite its image as a playground for big money, Dubai actually offers several pathways designed for small businesses and solo entrepreneurs. Free zones across the emirate specifically cater to startups, freelancers, and SMEs with reduced setup packages, flexible office requirements, and streamlined licensing. Add to that zero personal income tax, 100% foreign ownership in most free zones, and a strategic location bridging Europe, Asia, and Africa, and it's easy to see why so many first-time founders choose Dubai over other global hubs.

Step 1: Choose the Right Business Activity

Before anything else, define exactly what your business will do. Dubai's licensing authorities classify companies by activity type - commercial, professional, industrial, or tourism - and each comes with its own cost structure. Professional and consultancy licenses (marketing, IT services, design, coaching, e-commerce) tend to be the cheapest to set up and are ideal if you're working with limited capital, since they often don't require large physical premises or inventory.

Step 2: Pick a Cost-Effective Jurisdiction

This is where most of your savings will come from. You have three main options:

Mainland: Allows you to trade directly within the UAE market and take government contracts, but setup and office costs are typically higher.

Free Zone: The most popular choice for low-capital startups. Free zones like SHAMS, IFZA, Meydan, and RAKEZ offer starter packages that bundle a license, visa allocation, and a flexi-desk or virtual office at a fraction of mainland costs.

Offshore: Best if you don't need to operate physically inside the UAE and mainly want an international holding structure - generally the cheapest option, but it doesn't come with a UAE residency visa or the ability to trade locally.

For anyone genuinely watching their budget, a free zone license is usually the sweet spot between affordability and functionality.

Step 3: Select a Cost-Efficient Office Solution

You don't need a lavish office to launch. Most free zones allow you to start with a flexi-desk or virtual office, which satisfies the legal requirement for a registered address without the overhead of a full lease. This alone can cut your setup costs significantly, and you can always upgrade to a physical office once revenue picks up.

Step 4: Understand the Real Costs Involved

Low capital doesn't mean zero capital. Here's what typically factors into your budget:

License fee (varies by free zone and activity)

Registration and administrative fees

Visa costs (if you need a residency visa)

Flexi-desk or office fee

Bank account setup (some banks require a minimum balance)

Some free zones offer bundled packages starting from a few thousand dirhams, especially for single-activity licenses without visas. If you're not applying for a residency visa immediately, your starting cost drops even further.

Step 5: Open a Business Bank Account

This step trips up a lot of new entrepreneurs. UAE banks have become more selective with compliance checks, and low-capital startups sometimes struggle to meet minimum balance requirements. To improve your chances:

Prepare a clear, simple business plan

Have your trade license and shareholder documents ready

Consider digital-first banks or fintech alternatives, which often have lower entry barriers than traditional banks

Step 6: Keep Overheads Lean in Your First Year

The businesses that survive on low capital aren't the ones that spend cautiously once - they're the ones that build lean habits into their operations:

Use freelancers or part-time support instead of full-time hires early on

Rely on cloud-based tools for accounting, invoicing, and CRM instead of expensive software licenses

Market through organic channels (social media, referrals, local networking) before investing in paid ads

Negotiate supplier and vendor terms wherever possible

Step 7: Get Professional Guidance Before You Commit

The single biggest cost-saving move you can make isn't a discount package - it's avoiding mistakes. Choosing the wrong jurisdiction, missing a licensing requirement, or picking an activity classification that doesn't match your actual business can mean paying twice. This is where working with a business setup consultancy pays for itself. Takween Advisory specializes in helping entrepreneurs figure out how to start a business in Dubai with the most cost-effective structure for their specific goals, handling the paperwork, licensing, and compliance so you don't waste money on avoidable errors.

A Realistic Low-Capital Roadmap

Decide on your business activity and confirm it qualifies for a professional/consultancy license

Compare 3–4 free zones based on package pricing and included benefits

Choose a flexi-desk or virtual office to minimize overhead

Apply for your license without a visa initially, if your situation allows it

Open a business bank account, using digital banking options if traditional banks are slow to approve

Launch with minimal fixed costs and reinvest early revenue into growth

Scale your visa allocation, office space, and team only as demand justifies it

Following this order helps you avoid paying for infrastructure you don't need yet, while still operating fully within UAE regulations.

Common Mistakes That Drain Low-Capital Budgets

Overpaying for premium free zones when a lower-cost zone offers the same licensing benefits for your activity

Applying for multiple visas upfront before the business generates revenue to support them

Signing a long-term office lease before knowing your actual space needs

Skipping professional advice and later discovering the license doesn't cover the activities you're actually running

Final Thoughts

Starting a business in Dubai doesn't require a massive war chest - it requires a smart structure. By choosing the right free zone, minimizing your office footprint, and staying lean in your first year of operations, you can launch a fully compliant, functioning business without draining your savings. If you want a clear picture of how to start a business in Dubai tailored to your budget and industry, working with a team like Takween Advisory can help you map out the most affordable path forward and avoid costly missteps along the way.

The volume control on talk phones only works for the first 3/4. As you lower the volume to zero nothing happens, the volume stays the same. It would be nice to be able to lower the volume to almost nothing. Add the feature to use a different photo on the phones than your account photo. Add sms to other talk phones, I don't see the option. @UI-Team

[Feature Request] G3 Touch Enterprise – Third-Party PBX Improvements: Centralized Contacts, Call Waiting and Direct Video Calls

Hello Ubiquiti Support Team,

I would like to submit several feature requests for the UniFi G3 Touch Enterprise phone when it is used with a third-party PBX via SIP.

We are currently using G3 Touch Enterprise phones with a third-party PBX, and we have identified several limitations that significantly affect usability in an enterprise environment.

1. Centralized Contact / Address Book Management

Please add the ability to centrally manage and synchronize the phone address book when the G3 Touch Enterprise is connected to a third-party PBX.

Ideally, the phone should support one or more standard mechanisms for centralized corporate directories, such as LDAP/LDAPS or another centrally managed directory supported by UniFi.

This would allow administrators to maintain a single corporate contact directory instead of manually managing contacts on individual phones.

2. Call Waiting / Multiple Incoming Call Handling

There appears to be a usability issue when the phone is already on an active call.

If another call arrives while the user is speaking with someone, the current call can be interrupted by the new incoming call.

The expected behavior should be similar to standard enterprise IP phones:

The active call should continue without interruption.

The user should receive a visual and/or audible notification about the second incoming call.

The user should be able to choose whether to answer the second call or continue the current conversation.

If the second call is answered, the first call should automatically be placed on hold.

The user should then be able to switch between the two calls.

An incoming call should never automatically interrupt or replace an active conversation without explicit action from the user.

3. Ability to Initiate a Video Call Directly

When the G3 Touch Enterprise is connected to a third-party PBX, it is currently possible to enable video only after a voice call has already been established.

Please add the ability to initiate a video call directly.

For example, when selecting a contact or entering an extension, the user should ideally have two options:

Voice Call

Video Call

When "Video Call" is selected, the phone should initiate the SIP session with video capability from the beginning rather than requiring the user to establish an audio call first and then enable video.

This functionality would be especially useful for organizations using G3 Touch Enterprise phones for internal video communication through third-party SIP/PBX platforms.

These improvements would make the G3 Touch Enterprise much more suitable for enterprise deployments where organizations want to use Ubiquiti hardware while retaining an existing third-party PBX infrastructure.

We would appreciate it if these requests could be forwarded to the UniFi Talk / G3 Touch Enterprise product development team for consideration.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Denis

@UI-Team Currently, the only way to assign the office number as the outbound caller ID for a user is by adding their phone/account to the office call group. However, this approach is problematic for our use case: we have a Front Desk, the owner and the shop. Calls should never get to the shop, unless one of the other 2 pass the call, but unless I add it to a group the shop cannot make outbound calls only internal.

Not sure if there is a way maybe to allow the user in the group and then in the call handling, when set to sequential, maybe have a NONE or no ring option instead of just the times?

This would enable outbound calls to display the office number while preventing unnecessary inbound call interruptions.
